History

August 1966:
Abaluhya won Haile Selassie Cup that had been introduced on 11-6-64 to mark the visit of the late Emperor Haile Selassie in Kenya. In the final match, Abaluhya beat Feisal 3-2.

31-12-66:
Abaluhya won the 1966 K.N.F.L. Championship for the first time. The teams finished as follows in the final league table standings :- Abaluhya, Nakuru All-Stars, Harambee Maseno, Luo Union,  Feisal,  Maragoli,  Ramogi,  Kisumu Hotstars,  Nairobi Wanderers,  Liverpool,  Eldoret United, Kakamega Black Stars

29-1-67:
Abaluhya beat Tanganyika Plantation Comoany (T.P.C.) 3—1 in Nairobi in the quarter-final replay of the Allsopps Cup, the un-official East and Central Africa Club Championship. The Abaluhya goals were scored by Antony Mukabwa, Joe Kadenge and Livingstone Madegwa.

12-2-67:
Abaluhya defeated Kampala Express 3—2 at Nakivubo Stadium in a tough semi-final Allsopps Cup match that went into extra time to break a 2—2 deadlock after the mandatory period. Abaluhya was boosted by two goals from Madegwa and the winning one from John Nyawanga.

March 1967:
Abaluhya won the F.A, Cup of Kenya by beating Maragoli 3—0 in the final.

30-4-67:
At the club’s A.G.M. the following were elected officials: —

  • Coach —  Mr. Elijah Lidonde.

1-5-67:
Abaluhya won the Madaraka Day Cup by beating Luo Sports Club 4—1.

13-5-67:
Abaluhya became the first club in Kenya to win the Allsopps Cup after they thrashed Sunderland of Tanzania 5—0 in the final match at the Nairobi
City Stadium. The scorers were:— John Ambani (17th), Elisha Shabasinya (40th and 60th), Anton Ojiambo (86th) and Kadenge (88th).

18-6-67:
Abaluhya thrashed Homa-Bay Silver Stars 13—1 in a K.N.F.L. match in which Livingstone Madegwa scored six goals.

7-10-67:
The Kenya National Football Team composed of 9 Players from Abaluhya F.C. won the inaugural East Africa Challenge Cup after beating Uganda 3—1, Zanzibar 6—O and Tanzania 5—3. The “Magnificent Nine Players” were:— Charles Makunda, Jonathan Niva, Antony Mukabwa, Moses Wabwayi, Daniel Anyanzwa, Joe Kadenge, John Axnbani, Livingstone Madegwa and John Nyawanga. To complete the team, the selectors brought in goalkeeper James Siang’a and centre-forward William Chege Ouma both from Kisumu Hotstars.

17-12-67:
Abaluhya won the 1967 K.N.F.L. championship and became the first club to win the national diadem twice in a row. The final league table standings were: 1. Abaluhya,.2.Kisumu Hotstars, 3. Luo Sports Club, 4. Harambee Maseno, 5. Feisal, 6. Maragoli, 7. Ramogi, 8. Nakuru All-Stars, 9.Liverpool, 10 Kitale, II. Nairobi Wanderers, 12. Homa-Bay


27-1-68:
Abaluhya embarrassed the Football Association of Kenya by boycotting an exhibition match against Kisumu Hotstars in honour of the President of F.1.F.A., Sir Stanley Rous. who was touring Kenya. Consequently, the FA decided to ban the club for one year and the officials for three years for what the national soccer body chairman, Mr. John Kasyoka termed a blatant disregard for authority. The Fa even attempted to disband the Club but met firce resistance.

11.2-68:
The I. A. of Kenya lifted the one year ban they had imposed on Abaluhya F.C. Instead, the club was fined Kshs. 1,000/- and the suspension of the officials reduced to six months. An interim committee led by Mr. Albert Ongaro replaced the suspended Executive committee of Mr. Christopher Omufira.

7.11-68:
The former suspended officials- Mr. Christopher Omufira, Mr Phillip Oyango and Mr. Zachariah Shimechero - were granted an injunction by Justice Harris in the High Court to resume club administration.

12-11-68:
Abaluhya won the controversial 1968 F.A. Cup of Kenya.

25-10-69:
Abaluhya won the Kenya Civil Servants’ Union Challenge Cup by whipping Kisumu Hotstars 4—0.

22-11-70:
Arthur Okwemba, a former Abaluhya F.C. midfielder, suffered a dislocated knee-cap during the Africa Cup of Nations match between Kenya and Ethiopia.

30-11-70:
Abaluhya won the Nairobi Provincial Football Association League.

13-12-70:
Abaluhya won Jamhuri Cup by beating Kenya Breweries 2—1.
